Special Events
During the preschool year, your child will enjoy a host of different events.
Curriculum Night
Each fall, the Preschool hosts a “Curriculum Night” to
provide parents with an overview of the preschool curriculum. This
is an excellent opportunity to meet and talk with your child’s
teacher, our Director, and to view our classrooms. Parents are also
welcome to invite a guest who may not be directly involved in the Preschool.
Pumpkin Carving Night
Four-year-olds invite a parent to come and hunt for a pumpkin in our
playground. Parent and child carve the pumpkin together and when
finished, the lights are turned off so that we can take a spppoooky
picture of all the lit up pumpkins!
Christmas Event
Past performances include The Frog Prince, Robert Munsch’s Paper
Bag Princess as performed by the Faulkner Sisters, Marnie performed & Magician
Peter Rooke
Field Trips and Community Visitors
Children in our three-year-old classes enjoy neighbourhood walks, trips
to the library and visits from various community members.
In the past these have included Maplewood Farm, The Ecology Centre,
Capilano Library, Dentist, Post Office, Community Police, The NV Fire
Department, and Veterinarians.
Mother's Day Tea
Four-year-olds invite their moms or a special ‘lady’ in
their life to attend a tea. These special ladies are given personalised
towels, princess crowns to wear, and a special gift, all made by their
child. Gift giving is followed by a special tea, served by the children
themselves.
Year-End Picnic
At the end of each year, Highlands hosts a Year-End picnic at Eldon
Park. Children and their families get to participate in a variety
of events from decorating cookies, to scavenger hunts, to bubble
blowing and craft making.
